After another year that saw a serious decline in record sales, the music industry is, once again, hoping that 2009 will be the one that turns around a nearly decade-long sales spiral. And, judging from the boatload of marquee talent expected to drop new discs this year, it’s possible that the bleeding could at the very least be slowed down. Maybe.
And with a list of heavy-hitters expected to release fresh material this year (which, like everything on this list, is subject to change) including Eminem, U2, Dr. Dre, Green Day, 50 Cent, Jay-Z, R. Kelly, Black Eyed Peas and Christina Aguilera, who knows?

First of all, let me greet you Happy Thanks Giving Day! I hope you have a very good one!  And yeah, be sure to catch Christina on MTV Hits tomorrow, Friday. Christina herself said on the promo aired that she’s going to host a hit list of her favorite videos and MTV programs that she’s done over the years. It looked like it took place during the same time she did the TRL Finale but had a different outfit on.
So … tomorrow on MTV Hits. There was no time so it’ll probably be an all day thing.

The last time we saw Christina Aguilera, she was masquerading as a singing, dancing Vargas girl, a 1940s pinup re-imagined as a 2000s pop princess. Since her last album, well … let’s just say things are a little bit different.
Because when Aguilera unveiled her brand new look at the 2008 Video Music Awards, it was as if that retro queen had been packed into a capsule and rocketed headlong into the future. Gone were the soft curls and pleated skirts, replaced instead with impossibly angular bangs, thigh-high boots and enough pleather to make Catwoman blush.
It was, to coin a term, “future fetish.” And when MTV News sat down with Aguilera last week in Los Angeles to talk about her greatest-hits album, Keeps Getting Better, and her “futuristic” new record, we decided to run our new phrase by her … and, surprise, surprise, she sort of liked it.

My L.A. colleagues at MTV News recently interviewed Christina Aguilera about her new greatest hits album and some weightier issues like advocacy against California’s Proposition 8.
But credit that L.A. team for always remembering what it is that I need to know, and that’s whether the famous people we interview know anything about video games. Here’s Aguilera responding to a question about what she likes shopping for at Target, where her new album is being released:
“Target is an amazing store. You can find anything there. Board games… I’m a big gamer. I love my Nintendo DS. I love my board games. So on the road, [I play them] especially to kill time. Now, I don’t have much time, because of my little one, to play those games. I play different games now.”
That was on-camera. Off-camera, the L.A. team asked Aguilera which games she likes on the DS. Her top pick? “Mario Kart DS.”
