• 1736 Family Crisis Center •
Since 1972, 1736 Family Crisis Center has grown from a single shelter for runaway and homeless
youth to what has become an internationally-recognized nonprofit agency with prevention and
treatment services for women, children, and families in severe crisis. With a dedicated professional
staff assisted by over 100 volunteers, the Center has ten sites serving all of Los Angeles County
and beyond. The sites, some of which are at confidential addresses to protect the residents, are
in the cities of Los Angeles, Long Beach, Hermosa Beach, and Redondo Beach. They include five
caring shelters for battered women and their children, two shelters for homeless youth, and clinics
for counseling of all types and for job training to help clients recover and gain long term stability.
One philosophy ties the many programs together - it is a belief shared by all at 1736 Family Crisis Center
that every child, woman, and family is worthy, capable, and deserving of a productive life, abundant in
love and self respect, and free of violence. Battered women's shelters include even pregnant women and
celebrate new life with each birth in the safe, warm environments that the shelters provide; likewise,
these homes accept boys and girls of all ages, from birth through 17. Youth shelters care sensitively
and effectively for boys and girls from age 10 through 17, many of whom would otherwise be on the streets.
Last year, 1736 Family Crisis Center reached nearly 25,000 people. It all happens with strong community support.

ALDO, a global fashion footwear and accessories brand and retailer, and YouthAIDS have partnered to create a global fundraising
and awareness campaign to educate and prevent HIV/AIDS among teenagers and young adults.
By leveraging the proverb 'Hear No Evil, See No Evil and Speak No Evil', the campaign seeks to break the silence
about HIV/AIDS and educate and empower young people. The centerpiece of the campaign is a series of intrusive black-and-white
images shot by world-renowned photographer Peter Lindbergh, which portray the celebrities and
'Empowerment Tags' in unexpected and provocative ways.
The 'Empowerment Tag' is engraved with 'Hear', 'See', or 'Speak' on one tag, and the AIDS
ribbon on the other. The tags, available at ALDO stores worldwide and on
www.youthaids-aldo.org or
www.aldoshoes.com, will retail for $5, with 100% of
the net proceeds benefiting YouthAIDS. Funds raised from the sale of the Empowerment Tags will enable YouthAIDS to educate
and protect young people in more than 60 countries.
"People I know have been devastated by it. The more we ignore this, the more guilty we are. Everyone is going to know someone
who is affected by Aids or even be affected themselves.
It's about people having respect for themselves and respect for humanity.
HIV is something that people don't want to talk about, hear about or face."
- Christina Aguilera
