Christina Aguilera Talks Fragrance and Finding Self Confidence
Written by admin on January 22, 2013

The singer reveals what beauty indulgences she would never give up and how she uses her own struggles as a teen to coach contestants on The Voice.
Christina Aguilera has built a wildly successful career on songs that empower women to feel stronger and more beautiful, so it’s no surprise that her latest fragrance is all about being your best, most comfortable self. Red Sin, which the singer adds to her growing library of fragrances this season, is a mix of sassy and sweet.

“All of my fragrances have a musky undertone—it’s a signature in my scents,” says Aguilera. “This one opens with sweet and floral touches. Red is a key point in curiosity, interest, flirtatiousness, and irresistibility. I was just excited to put all that into one fragrance.”

Though she’s admittedly obsessed with warm scents, moisturizing lip balms, and candles that make her feel cozy, this singer has a more of a wild feel on stage and on the red carpet.

“I could never give up my love for experimenting with makeup, with different looks and styles, and with hairdos and wigs! It’s so much fun for me as an entertainer and also on a personal level to keep things fresh and theatrical.”

That unique sense of style came from the desire at an early age to be her own person. “I never wanted to dress like anyone else as school,” says Aguilera. Though she wanted to pave her own way in the crowded halls of high school, that doesn’t mean she was without a shade of self-doubt.

“Sometimes, you’re like, ‘Oh my gosh, what was I thinking?’ It’s important to go through that time. I look back now and I say, ‘Yeah, I had the guts to do that. I was my own person.’ I think that’s important. The person you are when you’re a teen is not the person you’re going to be one day. We all have to go through those awkward moments, and trust me, we’ve all been there.”

As a coach on The Voice, Aguilera has the chance to impart some of those experiences as a teen onto aspiring artists.

“It’s so important to me to just listen and, at the end of the day, support individuality, uniqueness, and spirit. Know that the scope of what you may be dealing with, even in rough situation, is only a moment in time. I think it’s important to stay true to who you are and realize there’s a bigger picture out there than the here and now. Sometimes, it’s about embracing your imperfections. I talk about that in songs like “Beautiful” and on my new album, Lotus. That’s what inspires me to be the artist I am today, to keep growing, and to create the music I have for all the fighters out there.”
